Shocking Truth: Border Crisis Rages On Unchecked

Despite the Biden administration’s claims of success following the end of Title 42 last month, the reality is that illegal border crossings have not significantly decreased. While there was a temporary dip in the numbers, it was hardly the major victory the administration portrays it to be. The recent data from Customs and Border Security reveals a different story altogether.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, unlawful border crossings dropped by over 70 percent since the lifting of Title 42. However, a closer look at the Southwest Land Border Encounters report shows that May encounters were slightly lower than the same month last year but still 20,000 higher than in 2021 and nearly ten times higher than in 2020. We are on track to set another record this year, with numbers well above two million, which is unacceptable.

Furthermore, the demographics of those crossing the border illegally contradict the narrative presented by the administration. While we are often told about families seeking a fresh start, the reality is that the majority of illegal border crossers are single adults, predominantly young males. The number of unaccompanied minors is comparatively small, and some individuals have been found to lie about their age.

The situation at the southern border remains a crisis, and it is a problem that can be addressed with the right actions. We need to complete the border wall, increase funding for Border Patrol and immigration courts, and ensure that ICE is fully operational to locate, detain, and deport those who have been released into the interior. Unfortunately, the current administration lacks the will to take these necessary steps, which is why we need new leadership in the future.

Celebrating a slight decrease in numbers while still facing record-breaking levels of illegal border crossings is misguided. We must acknowledge the severity of the situation and take decisive action to protect our borders, enforce immigration laws, and prioritize the safety and well-being of American citizens.
