Louisiana is the Latest to Ban Child Trans Procedures

Louisiana has taken a commendable step towards protecting children by passing legislation that bans sex reassignment procedures for minors claiming to be transgender. The bill, supported by both Republicans and Democrats, prohibits hormone treatments, puberty blockers, and surgeries for children. Republican state representative Gabe Firment, the bill’s sponsor, rightly framed the issue as a means of safeguarding children from potential harm. While critics argue that the legislation denies necessary care, its intention is to prevent risky and unproven medical treatments.

It is important to note that Louisiana’s legislation does not seek to dictate what adults can do to themselves or how they identify. The focus is solely on protecting vulnerable children from irreversible procedures. Unfortunately, many blue states have fully embraced the transgender social contagion, blurring the line between mental illness and a new definition of human existence. This raises concerns about how major medical associations and children’s hospitals have adopted this ideology without sound scientific justification.

Contrary to the United States, governments and medical associations in Europe have recognized the lack of scientific rationale for these “transition” procedures and have put an end to them. It is disheartening that the United States lags behind in this regard. To address this issue, it is crucial for the GOP House majority to take action. Establishing a House committee, such as the Committee on Responsible Medical Care and Science, or utilizing existing subcommittees focused on health, could bring the heads of professional associations, including the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics, to testify and present their research. They should be compelled to provide evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of puberty blockers, hormones, and genital surgeries, particularly in the context of children. By inviting expert doctors to testify in favor of alternative perspectives, the truth can be revealed.

While the government cannot directly control professional associations, these hearings can expose them to public scrutiny and demand transparency. If they refuse to act responsibly, the hearings can serve as a basis for new regulations at the federal level that prohibit these procedures altogether. It is imperative to address this issue and put an end to the potential abuse of children. We have the capability to unite and protect the well-being of our nation’s youth.
