He questioned why such behavior, deemed inappropriate even by the White House, should be allowed to influence the curriculum in second-grade classrooms. He pointed to the contrast between the inappropriate behavior at the event and the need for age-appropriate instruction in schools.
DeSantis faced criticism from Democrats for signing a parental rights law that restricts classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in kindergarten through grade 3, in accordance with state standards. Despite the law’s focus on age-appropriate instruction, Democrats have labeled it the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, despite those words not appearing in the legislation.
The incident at the White House, where the pride flag was flown between two American flags, ignited controversy and drew strong reactions on social media. In response, GOP Senator Roger Marshall introduced a bill to restrict federal buildings from flying any flag other than the United States flag, with a few exceptions.
Furthermore, the White House faced criticism from Republicans after videos emerged of topless transgender activists at the event. The White House acknowledged that the behavior was unacceptable, expressing disappointment and stating that those individuals would not be invited to future events. The press secretary emphasized that such behavior was not a common occurrence under the current administration.
